The aim of this research is to define the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and to understand the linkages between WBS and man-hours development for Shipbuilding Project. Implementing the developed software system to real operations has contributed to improved productivity, faster resource estimation, and better accuracy over their conventional manual calculation methods. Then the paint resources can be obtained from the product of the paint areas of the pipe supports and required paint thickness. The geometric information of pipe supports is extracted from the existing shipbuilding CAD/CAM system such as AVEVA marine. The conventional manual method usually takes a long time and may cause errors because it depends on 2D drawings and past experiences. This study aims to develop a software system which can estimate the painting area of pipe supports using existing 3D CAD outfitting models. The painting process is an intense manual operation and the painting amount estimation is required for cost and inventory control. Large ships and offshore structures usually have about seven to nine thousand pipe supports which are painted properly to prevent corrosion.
